It’s been decades since blackmail forced Troy Callahan to retire from playing professional hockey, and he’s built a successful career behind the bench. When he’s offered the opportunity to coach the Asheville Ravens—the most hated team in the ECHL—he’s convinced that his no-nonsense attitude is just what the team needs to put their focus back on hockey. But Troy is disheartened when he finds out the Ravens have signed Shane North, a player known for his aggression—especially when Shane’s rough good looks have Troy thinking inappropriate thoughts about a player, even if he’s set to retire at the end of the season.

Shane’s career in the majors never quite took off. Wanting to quit on his own terms, Shane agrees to a one-year contract with the Ravens and finds himself playing for a coach who thinks he’s an aging goon, and with a team that doesn’t trust him, Troy, or each other. Despite his determination not to get involved, Shane unwillingly becomes part of the team… and is just as unwillingly drawn to the gruff, out-and-proud coach. As the Ravens struggle to build a new identity, Shane and Troy succumb to the passion that might cost them everything.

Shane was thinking of something smart to say when Troy pushed him back against the car and kissed him. Suddenly he was fine with the car being parked so far away from the entrance, because he relaxed back against it, widened his stance, and grabbed Troy’s coat to pull him in closer and kiss him back. Troy’s mouth had the faintest taste of Coke and whiskey, and Shane chased after it with his tongue.

“Leaving already?” he asked between heavy, heated kisses.

“Mmm. Yeah. We thought we’d let the rest of you kids enjoy your evening without adult supervision.” Troy rubbed at Shane’s cock through his jeans. “Get in the car and I’ll blow you.”

“Alani’s waiting for me,” Shane managed as his cock hardened beneath Troy’s hand.

“Oh? What’s that?” Troy maneuvered closer, shoved one leg between Shane’s, and replaced his hand with the hard grind of his thigh. “You worried about being caught, North?”

Shane’s eyes closed at the pressure against his cock, which felt fucking wonderful, and continued to protest. “Car’s too small. And it’s too fucking cold.”

“I could make you come right here in your jeans, and you know it.” Troy’s mouth was hot on Shane’s neck, his voice like a filthy caress. He increased the pressure of his thigh against Shane’s cock. “Could grind against you, rub you off, and you’d fucking love every goddamn second of it.”

Avon Gale is back with the newest Scoring Chances novel and if you love fun, hot, flirty, M/M on ice romance reads then this is the book for you. Yes, it’s hotties on ice, ice hockey that is. Whoa is it hot in here all of a sudden or just me?

I will admit that this was the first time I have read this author and after devouring Coaches Challenge I have to say I’ve been missing out, bad reader. This book was so damn good that I might have accidentally inhaled it.

The premise of a player/coach romance had me saying yes to the book and I’m so glad I did because the main two characters in Troy and Shane were so much fun to read. Plus they were smoking hot together which just added to their story. Win win for me.

You knew when Troy and Shane first met that the sparks were going to fly and almost melt the ice. Even though it could end both their careers, sometimes it’s worth the risk.

Coach Troy, who was head hunted to turn around the most hated hockey team in the league and the aging player Shane who just wants to retire on his own terms clash from the start.

But it’s more than just both being stubborn and wilful. Both feel the spark, but with their respective positions in the team they deny the attraction till it explodes and leads to one hot encounter after another. OMG I’m still hot and bothered over a certain scene in Troy’s office.

What neither expected was to fall and fall hard. So when the truth comes out about them courtesy of a slime ball, everything gets laid out on the ice and in what had me giggling at the best I love you moment I have read in ages. Seriously, men LOL.

One of my favourite things about this book was the fact that it wasn’t all angsty and drama driven. It was undeniably hot (hello dirty talking coach, phew) and well written but what I would say an easy read. It never got too heavy and emotion driven, which sometimes you need. Well done to the author for pulling it off.

One last thing, while this is part of a series you can absolutely read it as a standalone. Though if you are like me, you will be off to buy the other books after you are done. Because I still can’t believe I’ve waited this long to read this series.

Avon Gale wrote her first story at the age of seven, about a “Space Hat” hanging on a rack and waiting for that special person to come along and purchase it — even if it was a bit weirder than the other, more normal hats. Like all of Avon’s characters, the space hat did get its happily ever after — though she’s pretty sure it was with a unicorn. She likes to think her vocabulary has improved since then, but the theme of quirky people waiting for their perfect match is still one of her favorites.

Avon grew up in the southern United States, and now lives with her very patient husband in a liberal midwestern college town. When she’s not writing, she’s either doing some kind of craft project that makes a huge mess, reading, watching horror movies, listening to music or yelling at her favorite hockey team to get it together, already. Avon is always up for a road trip, adores Kentucky bourbon, thinks nothing is as stress relieving as a good rock concert and will never say no to candy.

At one point, Avon was the mayor of both Jazzercise and Lollicup on Foursquare. This tells you basically all you need to know about her as a person.

Avon is represented by Courtney Miller-Callihan of Handspun Literary Agency.
