Rachels Review

You’re going to Hell!

Sorry I couldn’t resist it. Okay I didn’t even try. But we the reader do actually go to hell with this instalment of the Mel goes to Hell series. Or as I like to call them, the Mel and Luce chronicles.

This book picks up directly after the huge events that happened in the last book, See you in Hell, for those who haven’t read it yet, do so before picking this book up, you won’t be sorry. For those who have, you will start from the next day when all the repercussions of Mel’s actions come to light.

I admit to cursing the author to Hell at the end of the last book as I wanted to find out what happened next. So when I got the opportunity to read this book I was super excited to do so and I’m excited to say that it was a fantastic read. It grabbed me at the first page and didn’t let go till the end.

There was a holy crap moment early in the book which while it was a surprise that I really did not see coming it set into play the rest of the book nicely. Way to snag a reader’s attention.

One of my favourite things in this series is the humour and touch of normalcy we get. How many times do you get the chance to read about the Devil himself operating a coffee machine or in this case cleaning up his own office or demons and imps being office workers? Never that’s when and why this series is a stand out amongst so many other heaven/hell/angel/demon series.

He grinned.” “Entering the devil’s lair. I could have a den with whips, chains and all sorts of torture implements in here. Aren’t you worried about what you might find? O that you might not make it out?’

“You don’t torture people for pleasure. You could be hiding poor taste in decorating.”

With this story we get to watch as Mel descends to Hell in search of Luce and to bring him back to where he rightfully belongs. From the moment she arrives and changes the sign at the gates to one that is far more appropriate (chuckles) to her journey through the 9 levels of Hell to get to Luce, you will be in awe of Mel’s powers, her ability to charm anyone, her interactions with the imp’s and demons she met while working at Hell Inc, let’s not forget her negotiation skills and oh the fact that she is naked for 99% of the trip. Not that something as trivial as being naked slows her down on her quest to get to Luce. Let’s face it, we would probably do the same for Luce. He’s a sexy beast.

Poor Luce goes through a lot in this book, and there is more than one moment when I wanted to hug him and tell him it will be all okay. I really like Luce and we’ve seen him change and you will see more of that during and I suspect it will continue with the next book due in 2015.

So much happens in this book. Many truths are uncovered, family connections are revealed, changes are made and there is a particular scene towards the end of the book that will have you rooting for Mel even more. Damn possessive demons. I didn’t like that bitch in the last book and I certainly hate her now. You will see what I mean.

Mel Save Him med res

Once again the author has led us the reader on a fun-filled romp through the delicate landmine that is Heaven and Hell. You will get glimpses of past characters in Lillith, Persephone and my favourite imp Merihim as well as new characters that you may develop a soft spot for.

I for one am looking forward to the next book that I suspect Luce will take over and won’t that be a treat. If you, like me read a lot of paranormal books and sometimes like to read something in that genre but not so serious then this is the series for you. Start with Welcome to Hell which is permanently free and take it from there. These books are a fun read and well worth every cent.

Demelza Carlton has always loved the ocean, but on her first snorkelling trip she found she was afraid of fish.

She has since swum with sea lions, sharks and sea cucumbers and stood on spray-drenched cliffs over a seething sea as a seven-metre cyclonic swell surged in, shattering a shipwreck below.

Sensationalist spin? No – Demelza tends to take a camera with her so she can capture and share the moment later; shipwrecks, sharks and all.

Demelza now lives in Perth, Western Australia, the shark attack capital of the world.

The Ocean’s Gift series was her first foray into fiction, followed by the Nightmares trilogy. She swears the Mel Goes to Hell series ambushed her on a crowded train and wouldn’t leave her alone.
