Kari Review’s Rush (Book One of the Breathless Trilogy) by Maya Banks

Rush

Synopsis

Gabe, Jace, and Ash: three of the wealthiest, most powerful men in the country. They’re accustomed to getting anything they want. Anything at all. For Gabe, it’s making one particular fantasy come true with a woman who was forbidden fruit. Now she’s ripe for the picking…

When Gabe Hamilton saw Mia Crestwell walk into the ballroom for his hotel’s grand opening, he knew he was going to hell for what he had planned. After all, Mia is his best friend’s little sister. Except she’s not so little anymore. And Gabe has waited a long time to act on his desires.

Gabe has starred in Mia’s fantasies more than once, ever since she was a teenager with a huge crush on her brother’s best friend. So what if Gabe’s fourteen years older? Mia knows he’s way out of her league, but her attraction has only grown stronger with time. She’s an adult now, and there’s no reason not to act on her most secret desires.

As Gabe pulls her into his provocative world, she realizes there’s a lot she doesn’t know about him or how exacting his demands can be. Their relationship is intense and obsessive, but as they cross the line from secret sexual odyssey to something deeper, their affair runs the risk of being exposed—and vulnerable to a betrayal far more intimate than either expected.

“No, she didn’t imagine their relationship would be at all cold.  Hot.  Torrid.  Breathless.  Consuming.  All of those words she could well imagine.  But definitely not cold.”

My Review

I don’t even know where to begin with Rush to be honest.  I haven’t read a story like this in a while so when we were asked to review Rush I was really intrigued by it.  This is the story of Gabe Hamilton and Mia Crestwell.  The Prologue tells you up front what you are expecting from this book but it’s the chapters in between that really brought Gabe and Mia’s story full circle.

“Young, vibrant.  So very beautiful.  And her smile.  When she smiled, she lit up the world around her.  He failed to see how anyone could look beyond her when she was present.  She was…captivating.”

There is a 14 year age difference between Gabe and Mia.  Yes, 14 years.  Gabe is best friends and business partners with Mia’s brother Jace and their other best friend Ash.  Mia’s parents died when she was younger and her incredible brother Jace stepped in to not only take care of her, but raise her up into the amazing woman she became.  Gabe hires Mia to be his personal assistant with an agenda of his own.

“Having a man be so crazy for her that he couldn’t control himself wasn’t exactly a bad thing.  He hadn’t hurt her.  Yes, she was sore.  She had marks and small bruises from his hands and his mouth.  But she’d loved every minute of it even if she’d spent most of the time completely overwhelmed.”

Gabe showed her a different side to sex that she hadn’t ever experienced before.  Hell, he brought out of her something she didn’t realize she even wanted and all of it surprised her. She found herself enjoying how he controlled her, dominated her, and mostly how he made her feel before, during, and after.  Yes, it was heavy and consumed her every thought but surprisingly, it was exactly what she wanted and needed.

“Some crushes just never went away.  They build, instead into something permanent, obsessive and all consuming.”

Gabe knew she was forbidden to him due to many different factors but mostly because of Jace.  Regardless his feelings for her never faded, instead they intensified.   As she got older he knew exactly what he wanted but waited for the timing to be right before acting on it.  For Mia, Gabe was her teenage crush that never went away.

“There’s no hope for me with you, Mia.  I make promises I can’t keep.  I’m not myself when I’m with you.  I’m not even sure I like myself right now.  But I can’t stop.  God, even if it makes you hate me, I can’t stop.  I won’t stop.  My need for you consumes me and it’s not going away.”

Yes, if you haven’t guessed it, Gabe loves to be in control.  So much in fact that he has a contract with his lovers to protect himself from going through something similar to his divorce from his ex-wife Lisa.  (and yes, she does make an appearance in this book)  He’s dealing with his parents divorce and realizes how much he wants Mia.  Even with their contract, Gabe can’t seem to understand why things are so different with her.  To the point where he can’t stand to be without her.  But as any good love story will have, there is conflict,  heartbreak, secrets, and lies. Will Gabe and Mia have their happily ever after?  Hope you read this book to find out..

“Gabe collected her against him, his mind reeling with what he’d just experienced.  He was in awe.  He was humbled.  Most of all he was so damn grateful.”

I LOVE books like these.  The age difference didn’t bother me at all.  As one of my friends likes to say…”Love is love..” and isn’t that the truth.  While it does take Gabe a while to realize his feeling for her, I think deep down he always knew he loved her.  He knew he probably shouldn’t have those types of feelings for Mia but he just couldn’t help himself.  Denial was the man’s best friend that’s for sure.

So if you’re looking for a book with some incredibly hot sexy time, a blossoming love story between two unlikely people, and some amazing supporting characters (Caro, Jace, and Ash) to help the story along the way, look no further.  This is only book 1 in this series and I’m really excited for Jace’s story, Fever coming in April 2013!

I give Rush 4 Stars!

“An ache began in her chest that wouldn’t go away.  If only things could be between them this way all the time.  It was a hope – a dream – that wouldn’t go away.  She closed her eyes and savored the moment.  The feel of him and their closeness.”

THESUBCLUB was given an arc of Rush from Sullivan and Partners, LLC. in exchange for an honest review
