A little blurb about our team
Hi Everyone I’m Jenna…aka JennaBananas. I’m the resident book trailer maker here at theSubClub, and really proud that I can say I’m a part of such an amazing team. Reading is one of the great loves of my life, and although I was temporarily lost, I’m happy to say that I’ve found my way back home and haven’t put a book down since. I got into book trailer making quite by accident. I happened to stumble upon some great book trailers on YouTube and thought it was such a neat way to honor a book. Well, when I realized that thisamazing book I had just read, one that quite simply took my breathe away, didn’t have a trailer of it’s own yet, I decided that that needed to be fixed. You see, I couldn’t get this book out of my head, and I discovered that adding pictures and music to the images that were running through my brain was a great way to release some creative energy. And that’s how I came to create my first book trailer for Sylvain Reynard’s book, “Gabriel’s Inferno.” I had no idea that one book trailer would bring me to such an amazing community of readers and authors…and ultimately here to theSubClub, where I get to keep reading and making trailers! How ‘bout that?! It was serendipity…which incidentally, is my favorite word. Happy Reading Everyone!
My name is Emily, I am a wife and mother of two children (funny how that defines me). I am an absolute addict when it comes to reading and music. I am sarcastic and witty, with no filter when it comes to telling someone how it is. I prefer the “ripping the band-aid off” method verses “sugar coating”. I majored in Criminal Justice but work in a hospital (don’t ask me how that happened). “I’m selfish, impatient and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can’t handle me at my worst, then you sure as hell don’t deserve me at my best.” - Marilyn Monroe Reading for me is a way to escape and get lost from the stress of reality. I like to push my comfort zone because I find that I can be a more open-minded person, plus it adds for good discussions. I am a Romance junkie, I guess the idea of love and how it comes to be fascinates me, almost like a science project. I’m a complete virgin when it comes to blogging, so I guess its time for me to learn.
Hi – Neda Here.
What can I say about myself. I have a double major in English literature and sociology with a concentration in delinquent behavior. I am a crazy reader, I believe you reap what you sow, and I choose to sow kindness. I believe one person can change the world and live by the motto change happens with a gentle wind not a raging tornado. I am thrilled to be friends with these ladies and proudly call Subclubbooks my book home.
My name is Gazal, currently living in beautiful Vancouver British Columbia, love being active, working out, and in my down time, reading. I think my love for the books comes from growing up in a scholar family. My mother was a teacher and school principal so as my grandmother. I loved the collection of books stacking on the corner of our living room, mostly gathered by my father. Dickens, Pushkin, Dostoevsky, Jane Austin, Bronte Sisters, you name it, it was there. We were living in Shiraz, in the heart of Iran, the city of poetry and literature; where I was born and spent my early adulthood; where it is always spring; and where the great Saadi and Hafez penned their timeless masterpieces. I am not sure if my admiration for historical romance novels caused me to study History in Shiraz University, where I graduated with bachelor’s degree, or vice versa.
The first book affected me deeply was The Hunchback of Notre-Dame. I remember I read it over and over again, and it got me every single time. It’s amazing how ageless this story is, and how you can still easily apply it to our modern society, where unfortunately, the inner beauty is overshadowed by outer appeal. Let’s hope we change that.
I am honored to be one of the newest members of the SC! I have been a follower of the SC since its beginning and now I get to be a part of a wonderful group. Obviously I love to read; “Have books will travel!” (My Kindle app has eased the pain of sitting at red lights & doctor offices.) For me, reading is an escape into a story that lets me drift away for a short period of time, something that we all need once in a while, and in some cases every day. I like reading various genres but if it’s too farfetched or extremely mushy, it’s not for me. Only one author has made me ugly cry (well done you Molly McAdams). I want to be on the edge of my seat when reading, either from angst or laughter, you know it’s a good book when you are either shaking your Kindle (my poor Kindle) or snaughling (snort/laughing).
Besides reading my other immense passion is music, as in ‘don’t get me started we could be here all day discussing artists’ lover. One of my favorite quotes from a song (Hip Hip Chin Chin by Club Des Belugas) about music and life is, “The Beat, The Driving Force That Holds Our Lives Together.” It speaks volumes, so many volumes that I had it tattooed on me! I have several different play lists that I use for different points of the day, my mood and when I am reading. My all-time favorite artist or albums to listen to are; Ella Fitzgerald, Fat Freddy’s Drop, Justin Nozuka, D’Angelo, The Civil Wars, the soundtrack to the movie W.E. and covers by The Vitamin String Quartet. Listening to music while reading just enhances the book just like the movies, music can just set the scene!
Some of my other interests are (mini dating form here); anything pertaining to the UK (Anglophile in the house!), traveling, art, museums, photography, laughter, sarcasm, tattoos, random facts, and Doctor Who, The Golden Girls and Family Guy. Family & Friends are extremely important to me, they inspire me each day. I look forward to giving my perception on books I review and to relay author’s or character’s interviews with you, oh, and the music that I like to pair with them! Get your read on.
Mommy of 2 awesome kids and wife to a husband that just shakes his head at my reading addiction. Thankfully, he’s pretty understanding. I’ve learned to live on 5-6 hours of sleep every night to keep up with all the reading I do.
I’m a huge Denver Bronco fan. Game time is pretty much the only time you won’t find me with my kindle in hand. GO BRONCOS! I apologize in advance for my twitter feed during the game. I can be pretty…um… vocal. I believe a good book should make me feel something; laughter, sadness, anger, hot under the collar.
